About me . . .

Hello there!  I'm Jacqueline Driggers.  Let me take this space to tell you a little bit about myself.  First of all, I was born and raised in a small town in Kentucky.  I still live there too.  Right now I am a full time homemaker who is pursuing a writing career.  I have also started doing editing work, which I enjoy a lot.

I started writing back in high school, mostly poetry back then.  When I graduated from high school, I wanted to make a career as a writer.  But, back in 1979, it was a lot harder than it is now.  I wasn't sure what I wanted to take in college, and I had seen so many of my upperclassmen friends go a couple of years and drop out.  So, I ended up spending a couple of years at home with mom and dad, figuring

myself out.  But this was not wasted time for me, for this was when I really learned to cook.  Something for which my husband is ever grateful for.  You see, my dad worked second shift, and his main meal of the day was around noon each day.  After high school, my mom set me to cooking this meal while she did other things around the place.  Starting out, she would tell me what to cook and how to cook it, and so on.  By the time I had figured out my college choice, I had turned into a pretty good cook.  For college, I had finally decided on a local business college.  I took secretarial courses and computer courses.  Of all my english courses, I enjoyed my college one the most.  And as for the computer courses, they were just beginning to teach about the 'new' desktop computers when I graduated.  My first job was with an attorney who had a brand new desktop computer, so I plowed into the manuals and figured it out.  As far as me and computers, the rest, as they say, is history.  I would also have a job as a bookkeeper, before I quit working to plan my wedding and get married.  Since then I have been a full-time homemaker and have supported my husband in his endeavors and work.

Which brings us back around to now.  Back in 2011 or early 2012, I got to looking around and noticing how much better it was to get into writing now.  You have great word processing programs with spell checkers.  You can self-publish books for free.  You just have to write them and get them formatted and uploaded.  I guess it all started with my free Amazon Kindle pc app and the free books I was reading.  This little free app got me to reading again because of the ability to increase the type size.  Going all the way back to when I was a kid, I had always loved reading.  And my writing was a part of, or an extension of that.  Over the years since high school, I had kept up writing.  I wrote poetry, and some non-fiction pieces, plus one fictional short story for a fanzine in the mid 1980s I think.  Over the years, I had never had much luck with writing fiction.  That was until April of 2012, when on a random whim, I opened up my word processing program and began writing my first novel.

Now I am still working on that first novel, working on a cookbook, doing editing, doing book reviews, and having a ball at finally pursing my high school dream of being a writer.  Got questions for me not answered here?  Pop on over to my contact form and send them to me.  Take care, and thanks for visiting.
